Edward Slingerland visit (update: 9/12/14)
We are excited to announce that Dr. Edward Slingerland will be visiting our campus to give a talk titled "Trying Not to Try: The Art and Science of Spontaneity". His talk, based upon his recent research and his recently published book, explains why we find spontaneity so elusive, and shows how early Chinese thought points the way to happier, more authentic lives.
Professor Slingerland is currently Professor of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia and Canada Research Chair in Chinese thought and embodied cognition. He is an Associate Member of the Departments of Philosophy and Psychology, Director of the Cultural Evolution of Religion Research Consortium (CERC), and Co-Director of the Centre for Human Evolution, Cognition and Culture (HECC).
The talk will be held on Wednesday, October 29 at 4:30 PM in Centennial 1400, and is free and open to students, faculty, and the community. A downloadable flyer is available (.pdf format).
