Surround yourself with knowledge. Surround yourself with UW-La Crosse.
The circulating collection consists of books, government documents, maps, current periodicals and microforms. UW-L faculty, staff, and students may check out an unlimited number of items from the general collection. Reference books, bound periodicals, and material housed in the Area Research Center do not circulate.
Your barcoded UW-La Crosse ID card must be presented when checking out library materials. IDs are not transferable.
Community members (holding public library cards from a Wisconsin library or Winona and Houston counties in Minnesota) may purchase a borrower's card at the Circulation desk. There is a $25 community borrower card fee for Wisconsin residents and a $50 fee for Minnesota residents. Viterbo and WTC students and faculty should use their campus interlibrary loan to request Murphy Library materials. Community borrowers, Viterbo and WTC students, and faculty/staff partners are limited to ten charged items at a time.
Borrowers are responsible for all materials checked out and are expected to return or renew borrowed items by the due date. A borrower's responsibility does not end until materials have been returned to and discharged by the library. Please take care of the items and return them on or before the due date to avoid fines and replacement fees.
Borrowers are expected to respond to all library notices and are responsible for notifying the library of address changes or corrections.

Faculty are invited to check out current (unbound) periodicals for one week (7 days). This is a pilot program during which we plan to assess this service with the hope of expanding it over the coming months. If you have suggestions or comments regarding this new service, please contact:
Heather Jett, Access Services Librarian firstname.lastname@example.org.
To check out a current periodical, simply bring the item to the Reserves desk with your UW-L ID. A student assistant will place your item into a barcoded, plastic cover for checkout and will make a note of the item’s barcode, title, volume, and issue number. We appreciate your patience as we perfect this process.

As a pilot project, Room 12, in the library basement, has been converted to a silent
study room. Many students ask for an environment even quieter than the library’s designated quiet
areas, so this room is intended to answer that need.
For more information on this space please see our blog. We look forward to learning how this room fulfills its intended
purpose. Please let us know how it is working for you. Send feedback on this space to
To provide more computers during the busy period at the end of the semester, the library is opening
an additional room with computers. Room 30, a computer classroom in the basement of the library,
will open during regular library hours starting December 1, 2013. Students will be able to use the desktop
computers in that room individually or in groups.
