    Additional Information for School Counselors

Counselors, other school professionals, and mentors play an important role in the college admissions process. We want you to be able to assist and guide your students through the college search and application process with as much information as possible.

You may be interested in our fast facts about the University, admission guidelines for new freshmen, the majors and programs we have available at UW-La Crosse, our credit by exam policies, helping students arrange a visit to campus, and understanding the steps students should take after they have been admitted to UW-La Crosse.

We receive many questions about credit for college courses taken while a student is in high school.  We typically accept these credits from programs such as the College Credit Program (CCP), College in the Schools (CIS), Cooperative Academic Partnership Program (CAPP), Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO), and Youth Options. We perform the transfer credit evaluations before Freshman Registration, provided the student has submitted an official transcript from the post-secondary institution providing the course for credit. We also accept credit by exam, including Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate scores.

If you are a school counselor and have suggestions for information to be posted on the website, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Parents and family

The support of parents and families is important to students, especially high school seniors, as they begin college selection and application process. We hope to provide you with information on this website to help you enable your student to navigate his or her way through the application and registration process at UW-La Crosse.

If your student is considering UW-La Crosse, we invite you to review the application information for freshmentransfer, or graduate students, depending on their situation. You can encourage your student to contact the Admissions Office personally with questions or to set up an opportunity to visit campus. All visit options can be scheduled online.

As your student moves through the application process, the University may contact him or her through the email address the student has listed on the application. Please encourage them to check their email regularly, especially to obtain the username and password they can use to track their application status online through their WINGS Student Center. Please note that official admission decisions will always be sent via US Mail.

If your student is admitted to UW-La Crosse, the Admitted Students area of the website will provide valuable information to your student in preparing to enroll here. The dates for Freshman Registration in June will be posted on the Admitted Students site as soon as they are available. Students admitted for fall will be able to choose a Freshman Registration date after May 1.

Parents often have questions about financial aid, including completing the FAFSA. The Financial Aid Office is the best resource to assist you with these questions. The priority date for completing the FAFSA is March 15. If you are planning to apply for federal financial aid, please make sure that your student provides his or her social security number to the Admissions Office.
